What We Do

Since 2011, we have led the effort to achieve equality for disabled people. We have been at the forefront of many important issues and concerns of disabled people at a local and national level. We believe we can do better and are now launching our new initiative.

Our Mission

There is international recognition that disabilities can be hidden, mental, and not necessarily physical or just wheelchair users. People with disabilities are disproportionately negatively impacted by unfair and unjust public cuts. As well as cuts, increased charges, and changes to various local authority services are making a significant impact on disabled people. It is especially important that there is a local disability organisation to raise the issues and concerns of disabled people at a local and national level.

Our mission is to show how these barriers can be social, physical, attitudinal, cultural, or economic, preventing people with disabilities from taking up their rightful role as full and equal citizens.

“Mydisabilityplus has helped raised the profile and awareness of disabled people locally to have more inclusive lives in society.”

What We’ve Achieved

  • We are currently campaigning to address the lack of wheelchair-accessible taxis locally.

  • We organised and facilitated successful disability conferences and mental health events

  • We challenge NHS and local Health and Social Care Partnership’s (HSCP) strategic plans to ensure their impact assessment takes into account the needs of disabled people

  • We challenged the higher charges in Scotland for the Blue Badge scheme compared to the rest of the UK.

  • We worked with political parties to encourage better disability representation in politics.

  • We have contributed to various consultations at local and national levels.

  • We worked with public bodies and community partners to develop better framework for procurement

  • Work with public bodies to mitigate the impact of Welfare Reforms on disabled people.

  • We worked with community partners and public bodies to reduce suicides through better awareness and conversation and awareness training.
